I also apologize for not explaining more about what exactly I'm trying to accomplish to begin with. By changing their ID immediately after spawning and telling them to hate the specific set of monsters, though, they behave correctly and the problem appears to be solved.īut just because I solved my own problem doesn't mean I necessarily figured out how to truly make the player invisible to monsters! That is something that, as far as I can tell, is still not possible without bending over backwards and using crazy methods and engine trickery. Before, this wasn't working correctly and as they were following path nodes/patrol routes, sometimes they would break away and act very strangely. I used the fifth variation of Thing_Hate, which tells monsters to hate those with another ID but ignore the player himself. I finally managed to solve my problem by using Thing_Hate combined with changing IDs of freshly spawned monsters. Let's just say this: It's a very complex set of rules that must be followed within a very complex "secret" project I'm working on. Does the +DONTDRAW flag work? Hey - it doesn't appear in the ZDoom wiki, though I could have sworn I saw it in ZDoom v1.22's Dehacked awhile ago.ĮDIT EDIT EDIT: Apparently Skulltag has it too, as seen from here: I tested that and NO, it doesn't make you totally stealth against monsters :(Ĭhubz - what do you want the monsters to do? just stand there and not move while you walk in front of their face? do you want them to move if you shoot your weapon? I guess ZDoom should also have something like this, because it has lots of other custom powerups as well, such as monster terror, commonly used in mods as the Terror Sphere. You can summon it by saying at the console "summon totalinvisisphere", and it can be placed in maps by using doomednum 28423 (also different from the Eternity TC number). This can be safely used in Eternity WADs. I've assembled the item anyway, independent of any forward compatibility. Afterwards, you're sensed as partially invisible by the monsters, even if you're totally so. Unfortunately, it only makes you stealth until you shoot. I loved every minute, was shocked and dismayed by the ending, and highly recommend it.įor more information on Chuck Palahniuk’s other works check out his website at chuckpalahniuk.Eternity has the HIDEME cheat code, and the "total invisibility" item type can be mapped to a sprite, but it's not implemented on any stock item by default (there is a predefined EDF thingtype, but it's among the Eternity TC objects to be removed). From a rich and popular model to a grotesque being inside and out, the narrator grips you and pulls you into a world of revenge, of downfalls, of the ugliness of human nature, and of invisibility. Enter the beautiful people and watch them fall. Luxurious and grotesque and absolutely unique. Invisible Monsters deals with a well-known theme in our modern world - beauty. But really it is about ugliness and the way it manifests itself in people. Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk is a darkly humorous novel that follows the story of a young woman named Shannon. It is about one girl who loses her face and her brother who loses his…life? It is about one girl named Brandy who is a self-identified queen and enrolled in “the Marilyn Monroe school of medicine where enough of any drug will cure any disease.” It is about other characters…Manus and Evie and Shane. To try and describe what the book is about is easier done in themes – beauty, envy, addiction. As the friend who recommended the book to me said it is “quite possibly the most fucked up piece of literature I’ve ever read…a brilliantly executed trainwreck from beginning to end.” Invisible Monsters was written before Fight Club but published after – when Palahniuk first submitted the manuscript for publication no one accepted it because it was too graphic and grotesque. Palahniuk has a very distinct style, and knack for writing grit and gore that almost makes it sound romantic…almost. Palahniuk is the author of Fight Club (Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, 1999) which has become something of a cult classic since being released to the big screen. Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk (2007) I was absolutely engaged from beginning to end with this novel, however if you’re expecting a relatively light, and normal reading experience you won’t find it here. My first Chuck Palahniuk book was a real doozy.
